¿Cómo es?

Interactivos? es un evento en el que un numeroso grupo de personas se reúne en Madrid para trabajar colectivamente en el desarrollo de proyectos. Durante el día se crea un ambiente de intenso trabajo en común y por la noche se sale juntos a explorar la vida nocturna madrileña... Una vez concluido el taller, los proyectos que se han llevado a cabo se exponen en Medialab Madrid.

Cuando estábamos pensando un título para esta actividad, decíamos medio en broma que podría ser “un taller que no es el típico taller”. En vez del taller habitual, en el que un profesor trabaja con un grupo de alumnos para enseñarle unos conceptos en un breve periodo de tiempo, este taller se orienta al arte de construir cosas juntos, y la mayor parte del tiempo se ocupa “cacharreando”. Las dos semanas de duración del taller responden a la necesidad de tener suficiente tiempo para experimentar y construir algo nuevo. Este año el taller de producción será dirigido por Daniel Canogar, Simone Jones y Zachary Lieberman.


What is it like?

Interactivos? is a yearly workshop, which has occurred once before, and is an extremely special event in which a large group of people convene in Madrid and work side by side on series of projects. The group works crazy hard, and in the evening takes over Madrid en masse. The workshop concludes with the projects that had been made being exhibited at the Madrid cultural center Conde Duque.

We joke that the title should be "not a normal workshop, workshop." Instead of the typical workshop, in which one teacher works with a group of students to teach concepts in a short time, this workshop is much more focused on the art of making things, and most of the time is spent building, hacking and reconfiguring. Thus the long number of days, giving enough time to experiment and make something completely new.

This year's project building workshop is led by Simone Jones, Daniel Canogar, and Zachary Lieberman.


¿A quién está dirigido?

A cualquiera que tenga una idea que quiera desarrollar en colaboración con otros o a cualquiera que quiera colaborar en el desarrollo de una idea de otro. El taller esté orientado al desarrollo de proyectos con software y hardware abierto, y en especial a aquellos que ofrezcan una respuesta original al tema propuesto: la magia. Es importante recalcar que el taller no se dirige únicamente a artistas, sino también a hackers y experimentadores de cualquier clase.


Who is eligible to apply?

Anyone is eligible to apply. While the focus of the workshop is on making projects with open software and open hardware, we are interested in supporting projects which provide a fresh and original response to the topic: magic. We plan the workshop to support not only artists, but hackers, experimenters and people who just want to try to make something new.


¿Es necesario tener conocimiento tecnológicos previos?


No. Aunque se valorarán los conocimientos técnicos de los solicitantes en relación a los proyectos propuestos, en otros casos los organizadores se encargarán de formar grupos de trabajo que puedan ayudar a construir las propuestas. Lo más importante es el proyecto en sí: su relevancia, su alcance y su apertura a la participación de colaboradores.
\\ Esto es muy importante, ya que Interactivos? se concibe como un medio para fomentar nuevos trabajos e ideas. Nos interesa apoyar a un grupo muy diverso de personas y proyectos.


Do I need to have a background in technology to apply?

To put it simply: no!

While we expect that some of the participants applying with projects would have a background with the technology or techniques they are trying to employ, in other cases, the workshop organizers will work to assemble teams that can help with the building of the project. The most important thing is the project itself: it's relevance, scope, and the ease of having a group working on it.

This is pretty important to us, because we believe in interactivos as a mean to foster new work and ideas. We really strive to support a diverse group of people and projects.


¿Cuál es el tema de esta edición de Interactivos?

Este año hemos decidido poner un tema al evento Interactivos?. Este tema es la magia, y la idea es desarrollar proyectos que investiguen acerca del ilusionismo, los trucos o el azar a través tanto de tecnologías avanzadas como de tecnologías cotidianas y baratas.


What is this year's theme?

This year, we have decided to add a theme to the interactivos workshop. The theme is magic, and we are hoping to support projects that investigate illusion, wizardry, and chance through both high-tech and low-tech means, and reminds you to not entirely trust your senses.


¿Cómo puedo participar en Interactivos? si no tengo un proyecto propio, o si mi proyecto no es seleccionado?

Tras la primera convocatoria para la presentación de proyectos, se publicará una segunda convocatoria para participar en el taller. Los proyectos seleccionados se publicarán para que los interesados puedan decidir en cuál de ellos quieren colaborar y cómo.


What if I don't have a project idea, or my project is not accepted, can I still participate?

Again, simply: Yes! After this first call for project proposals, we will initiate a second call, for general participation in interactivos. The selected project will be posted online, and you can choose what project you want to join.


¿Si mi proyecto es seleccionado, qué apoyo recibiré de Medialab Madrid?

El taller es completamente gratuito, y aunque no podemos ofrecer ninguna dotación económica para los proyectos seleccionados, sí podemos echar una mano a quién nos lo solicite para encontrar alojamiento barato en Madrid, así como proporcionar cualquier documentación que pueda servir de ayuda a los participantes para conseguir apoyo económico de otras instituciones para viaje y alojamiento.

Por otro lado, Medialab Madrid hará lo posible para apoyar los proyectos que se desarrollen durante el taller en lo que se refiere a cuestiones técnicas y a materiales, así como para encontara perosonas interesadas en participar en la construcción de las propuestas.

Por último, tras el taller se seguirán apoyando los proyectos, intentando encontrar otros lugares y eventos donde puedan continuar desarrollandose o exponerse. El año pasado, por ejemplo, varios de los trabajos desarrollados durante Interactivos? se mostraron en el Electrolobby del Festval Ars Electronica de Linz (Austria), y posteriormente algunos de ellos se han mostrado en otros festivales y exposiciones. Este año habrá una colaboración con el festival Sonar de Barcelona, y también el centro de producción Hangar de Barcelona ofrecerá una residencia a uno de los proyectos iniciados en Interactivos?.


If my project is selected, what kind of support is given?

The workshop is completely free, and while we don't have financial support to offer for selected projects, we would be happy to try to help arrange cheap accommodation during the stay, and to provide any relevant documents to help the participants arrange funding from institutions for travel and/or housing.

We will do our best, though, to support projects that are being built in the workshop, from technical and material issues. And to find other interested people to help with the building of the works.

Finally, we do our best, after the workshop, to try to support projects made in interactivos and to find other venues or places for them to continue development. Last year, for example, we brought several works to Ars Electronica Electrolobby, and many works there have since been presented in other venues. This year we are in discussion with the Sonar festival for a similar kind of presentation of interactivos projects. Additionally, Hangar, an artist center in Barcelona has offered one residency slot specifically for a project initiated in this year's interactivos.


Qué tipo de tecnologías se usarán en Interactivos?

Interactivos apoya un modelo de software y hardware abierto. Dentro de esta filosofía se usan múltiples herramientas, pero especialmente las siguientes: Arduino, PD, Processing, y OpenFrameworks.

What kind of technologies will be used during the workshop?

Proposals are accepted anytime, but due by April 24th April 27th at 24h.


When will the selected projects be notified?

The jury's decision will be published on April 30th in http://www.medialabmadrid.es and in http://www.interactivos.org and it will also be communicated via email to all applicants.
