Hello there, my friends. My name is Richard Lockwood, a certified lover of life, aficionado of fine tobaccos, and a champion of the tobacco industry.

A bit about myself. I was born in Yorkshire, England, where I was introduced to the art of tobacco cultivation at a young age. My grandfather was a farmer who grew a small amount of tobacco, mostly for personal use. When I wasn’t helping him with the chores, I was enchanted by the detailed stories he told about the complexities of the leaf, its cultivation, processing, and the art of blending different varieties to produce unique flavors.

Fast forward to now, I’ve spent the last 25 years of my life immersed in the tobacco industry. I have worked with some of the biggest names in the business, including Philip Morris International and British American Tobacco, where I held a range of roles from product development to strategic planning. This gave me the opportunity to live and work in different countries, adding to my understanding of global tobacco markets. For the past five years, I have been residing in sunny Australia, which I now consider my home.

Throughout my career, I have received numerous recognitions for my work. Notably, in 2022, I was bestowed with the International Tobacco Analyst of the Year Award, and in 2020, I received the Golden Leaf Award for my contributions towards the industry.

Now, you must be thinking all I ever do is eat, sleep, and breathe tobacco. Well, that’s not entirely wrong! But I do have other passions. I’m an amateur photographer, love hiking the stunning Australian Outback, and, as a proud Englishman, I am also an ardent cricket fan. There is something about the meticulousness of cricket that reminds me of the precision required in the tobacco blending process.

My life’s work has been to bridge the gap between the industry and consumers, to share the story of the leaf from the field to the final product, and to foster an understanding of this complex and fascinating industry.
